Platform Setup & Verification

Choose the right platform, set the account up properly, clear verification cleanly, and connect a payout method — so the first dollar you earn actually reaches you.

This program is the mechanical heart of getting started. Foundations covers the mindset and the storefront; here you handle the plumbing — picking Fansly or OnlyFans, creating the account, passing verification, and wiring up payouts — the unglamorous steps that decide whether you can be paid at all.

Most “my money is stuck” horror stories trace back to a rushed setup: a name mismatch, an unverified account, or a payout method that was never confirmed. Do this part slowly and correctly once, and you never think about it again. This is a beginner-level program; if your account already earns reliably, skim it and move to Content Creation Basics.

Lesson 1 · Setup & Verification

Choosing your platform

Before anything else, decide where your home base lives. For most creators that is Fansly or OnlyFans, and our comparison weighs discovery, payouts, and audience so you can choose with eyes open rather than copying whoever you follow. There is no universally correct answer — only the one that fits your niche, your audience, and how you like to work.

You are not marrying the platform. The goal is a strong center first; later, diversification across the other platforms spreads your risk. But split your attention too early and you build two weak pages instead of one strong one, so commit to a single home base for now.

Lesson 2 · Setup & Verification

Creating the account the right way

Create your account under a dedicated creator identity, not your personal one. Use a separate email made only for this, a strong unique password, and a display name you have already secured across the channels you plan to promote on — consistency is part of your brand and makes you easier to find. Decide your persona name before you register, because changing it later is a headache.

Keep your real-world details out of anything public from the very first screen. The boundary between your creator life and your private life is easiest to hold when you draw it at setup — the full method is in Safety, Privacy & Boundaries, and it is worth reading before you finish this step.

Lesson 3 · Setup & Verification

Passing verification cleanly

Verification confirms you are a real adult and that the account is yours. It is the gate to getting paid — no money moves until it clears — so finish it before you promote, and never let traffic land on a page that cannot yet earn. The complete walkthrough lives in the verification topic.

The number-one cause of delays is a mismatch between your identity document and the details on your account or payout method. Make the legal name, date of birth, and address match exactly across all three. Submit clear, uncropped photos in good light, follow the platform’s current instructions to the letter, and confirm requirements at the source — the OnlyFans Help Center and Fansly Help Center are the authority.

Crucially: a platform asks for your ID only inside its own verified flow. Anyone in your DMs requesting your documents is running a scam — never send identity documents to a person.

Lesson 4 · Setup & Verification

Connecting payouts before you launch

Set up and confirm your payout method during setup, not after your first sale. Pick a method the platform supports in your country, make the account name match your verified identity exactly, and complete any micro-deposit or confirmation step so there are no surprises when you request your first withdrawal. The mechanics, schedules, and the tax side are covered in Payouts & Taxes.

Understand your platform’s payout schedule and any holding period from day one, so you plan around when money actually arrives rather than when it is earned. From your very first payout, set aside a portion for tax — treating this as a business from the start saves real pain later.

Lesson 5 · Setup & Verification

Securing the account

Your account is your income, so protect it like one. Turn on two-factor authentication, use a password manager so every login is unique, and store a clear copy of your identity document somewhere secure in case re-verification is triggered by a new device or a flagged login. Losing access — or handing it to the wrong person — is the single most damaging thing that can happen to a creator.

No legitimate manager, agency, or “support agent” ever needs your password. Account-access requests are the most common scam in the industry; keep control of your own login, always. The wider safety playbook is in Safety, Privacy & Boundaries.

Lesson 6 · Setup & Verification

The settings worth getting right

Spend twenty minutes in your account settings before launch. Configure your subscription price and any free-trial or promotion options deliberately rather than by default — these tie directly into your monetization plan. Review geo-blocking and watermarking options if the platform offers them, since they protect both your privacy and your content.

Set your messaging and tipping settings so they match how you intend to sell and talk to fans, and decide your content and interaction boundaries now, while it is calm, instead of mid-conversation later. Confirm what each setting actually does in the platform’s help center — defaults are not always what a new creator wants.

Lesson 7 · Setup & Verification

The setup checklist

Before you move on to making content, confirm the foundations are solid. A clean setup is quiet and boring — exactly what you want.

Ready-to-build checklist:

With this done, you are ready to make and post content with confidence — continue to Content Creation Basics.

Common mistakes to avoid:
  • Promoting before verification clears — traffic lands on a page that cannot earn.
  • A name mismatch between ID, account, and payout — the top cause of held funds.
  • Registering with a personal email or real name — fix your identity separation first.
  • Sending your ID to anyone who DMs you — always a scam.

Quick answers

How long does verification take?

It varies by platform and current volume, and the timeframe changes, so check the Fansly or OnlyFans help center. Submitting clear documents with matching details is the fastest path; mismatches cause most delays. More in the verification topic.

Do I need a business bank account to get paid?

Not to start — but separating business money from personal money early makes bookkeeping and taxes far simpler. See Payouts & Taxes.

Can I be on Fansly and OnlyFans at once?

Yes, and many creators are. Build one strong home base first, then expand using Diversification & Multi-Platform.
